Loqavore vs. Locavore: Why We Chose the Q

We get asked about the name a lot, and this post is here to clear things up for anyone curious about the meaning behind the Q.

What Is a Locavore?

A locavore is someone who prioritizes eating food that is grown or produced locally. It’s a meaningful movement that supports:

  • Local farmers

  • Sustainable agriculture

  • Seasonal ingredients

  • Community-based food systems

It reflects a food ethic we deeply respect.

In fact, the name Loqavore is directly inspired by the locavore philosophy.

Why We Didn’t Name the Brand Locavore

Our values align with those of true locavores. We celebrate chefs, farmers, and ingredient-driven food made with care. But we didn’t want to take a word that belongs to a broader food movement.

Locavore is a principle.
Loqavore is a brand that supports it.

We wanted to stand next to the movement, not on top of it. The goal has always been to bring attention to real locavores, not to rebrand the concept.

So Why the Q?

Phonetically, it sounds the same. But visually, the Q gave it distinction. It felt:

  • More graphic and brandable

  • Easier to recognize in a logo or shirt

  • Like an open door for conversation

It made the name ours, while keeping the inspiration clear. And people ask about it, which means we get to talk more about food, sustainability, and good systems.

Loqavore Is a Celebration of Craft

We don’t sell food. We sell ideas that orbit around it; chef planners, apparel, and creative tools designed to celebrate real food and the people behind it.

Loqavore is here to highlight cooks, farmers, and growers who care about the ingredients, the methods, and the land.

So if you’re wondering about the name, it’s not a typo.

We’re Loqavore, with a Q.
Inspired by locavores, and proud to support them.
